For the third-consecutive year nurses across the island received sweet treats courtesy of Honey Bun Limited to mark International Nurses Day.

The baking company started its ‘Donuts for Nurses initiative in 2020’, gifting nurses across the island with freshly-baked donuts every week from May 12 until June.

The Honey Bun team’s first visit last Thursday was to the Kingston Public and Victoria Jubilee hospitals in Kingston. The team was greeted with warm smiles from Matron Joan Walker Nicholson and her team, for what has become an annual joy-filled visit by representatives of the baking company.

The next stop was the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel on Waterloo Road, St Andrew, where senior nurses and the leadership of the Nurses’ Association of Jamaica (NAJ) had gathered to celebrate the day.

President of the NAJ Patsy Edwards-Henry, in welcoming the team, expressed the nurses’ gratitude to the baking company for an initiative that began early in the novel coronavirus pandemic, and has continued.

Speaking to the gathering, marketing and business development manager of Honey Bun, Loriann Tater, pledged the company’s support to the nurses who have provided excellent care to Jamaicans, particularly during the pandemic.

Michelle Chong, chief executive officer of Honey Bun, said of the initiative: “We are proud to continue supporting and showing our appreciation to our nurses year after year. Outside of the pandemic, our nurses have worked tirelessly for the health of our nation. We want to congratulate, recognise and encourage you each day! But, mostly, we want to thank you”.
