Power Ranking could steal show in O&S Tack Room Trophy run
After an eye-catching run behind stablemate Perfect Brew on last at the races, Power Ranking — from the stables of Hall of Fame trainer Richard Azan — could steal the show from rivals in the $1.05-million O&S Tack Room Trophy over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) at Caymanas Park today.
Travelling seven-and-a-half furlongs (1,500m) eight day ago, Power Ranking was just caught on the wire by Perfect Brew after a determined effort. With the distance reduced, the three-year-old bay colt will have to be caught here, and anyone doing so will surely win.
Yellowstone, trained by Alford Brown, and the Jason DaCosta-conditioned Buzz City Light are two speedsters who can also make one scrape in the Restricted Stakes event for native-bred three-year-olds and native-bred four-year-olds non-winners of four and imported three-year-old and upwards non-winners of three.
The O&S Tack Room is positioned as the eighth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 4:15 pm. First race is at noon.
Yellowstone returns to competitive racing from a 50-day break after finishing second to Emperorofthecats over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) on July 9. This gelding has speed and will go to the lead when the gates open.
The only occasion that Yellowstone has raced longer than five-and-a-half furlongs was in the one-mile 2000 Guineas when he ended up in eighth place. Seems to be a sprinter, who, despite some noted gallops at exercise, might find six-and-a-half furlongs a trifle long. Yellowstone races with the figure eight on.
Buzz City Light is a lightly raced colt who chased home Emperorofthecats over the straight on August 1. Buzz City Light also goes well on the round course, and with the champion jockey aboard, is poised for a winning run.
The rest of the field is made up of Awesome Rich, Luksol, Berning Red, and Thirtyonekisses.
Meanwhile, five-year-old American-bred bay mare The Good Witch seems well-poised to win her first race on local soil as she tackles rivals in a three-year-old and upward Restricted Overnight Allowance (non-winner of an Overnight Allowance lifetime going seven furlongs (1,400m).
The Good Witch finished in second place in her last two starts, losing out 7 ¼ lengths to She’s My Destiny over five-and-a-half furlongs on July 10, and four lengths behind She’s A Wonder over seven-and-a-half furlongs on July 30. Based on those runs, The Good Witch, trained by Adin Williams, should go one better here.
Miniature Man, Artesi, Bern Notice, and Versatile Vision should make the race interesting as they are capable of producing winning runs.
Ones to watch:
Race 1) One LikeIt/Jungle Boogie/The Pulse
Race 2) Diligent/Bruce Wayne/Powerful Red
