ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Head of the St Andrew South police, Senior Superintendent of Police, (SSP) Kirk Ricketts, says a sick-out by officers was not as big a deal as people have made it out to be.

Several disgruntled cops in the division called in ill this morning and did not report for duty because they were reportedly unhappy with some directives.

But SSP Ricketts believes the issue, which has since been settled, was blown out of proportion.

He explained that some members of a unit within the division were not pleased with a duty that was set and apparently decided to show their disapproval in a certain manner.

“We have many, many units in the division. Some members of this unit were not happy with the duty set by their team leaders, and they expressed it in that way,” SSP Ricketts told OBSERVER ONLINE. “A meeting was held to determine the way forward and the matter has since been resolved.”

The St Andrew South Division, which has four police stations, covers several volatile communities.
