Jamaica College eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over Haile Selassie on Tuesday to confirm their spot in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition for the 13th time in the last 15 years.

It was a classy performance from the “True Blue” as they stroked the ball around the lush Stadium East Field in the early afternoon.

Kevaughn Wilson put JC ahead with a fantastic strike from a distance in the first half and Jahmarly Bennett sealed the win with a run and shot in the second half.

The polished performance was exactly what coach Davion Ferguson wanted from his boys as they do their best to manage the games that are coming thick and fast at the business end of the season.

“We really wanted to make a statement in terms of using less amount of energy as possible because the turnaround time in terms of these games is pretty short,” Ferguson said

“We played two days ago, and we play two days from now, so it’s very important in this stage now to actually win your games, but more importantly use the least amount of energy as possible (and) get the youngsters recovered for the next game,” the coach added.

Ferguson also praised the performance of all his players who contributed to the easy win.

“I think we had a lot of players that did well. Collectively I think we managed the ball very well, we controlled the game, I think we could have been a little bit more efficient, but overall, I think everyone played well,” he said.

JC has probably the most talented and deep squad in the Manning Cup this season and the pronouncements of their head coach just about confirms it.

“Heading into this round, we are the best attacking team and the best defensive team, so we pride ourselves defensively to defend even a slim margin. But we also pride ourselves to score more than one goal in every game,” Ferguson stated.

The recurring decimal of Jamaica College versus St Andrew Technical High School, which has become commonplace in the knockout rounds of the Manning Cup, will highlight the last quarterfinal match day for group two at the Stadium East Field Friday afternoon, starting at 3:00pm. The two are tied on six points but JC currently lead on goal difference.

Haile Selassie and Wolmer’s, who will contest the semifinals of the Walker Cup next week, will close out their respective Manning Cup campaigns against each other at the Ashenheim Stadium at Jamaica College, also starting at 3:00pm.
