Queens win Rose Hall Division at Jamaica Classic
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina won the Rose Hall Division of the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic Men’s NCAA Division One basketball tournament after beating Morgan State University 74-64 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James on Sunday.
Unlike the decider for the Montego Bay Division between Loyola Marymount University and Wake Forest that went to overtime, Queens took control early and dictated the game.
Queens, who play in the Atlantic Sun Conference, got off to a fast start and led Morgan State by 20 points 22-2 with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half and were up 37-25 at half time.
Morgan State rallied in the second half to cut the deficit to single digits 44-53 with eight-and-a-half minutes to go in the game but that was as close as they got.
Jay’Den Turner scored 23 points to lead Queens, Kenny Dye scored 18 points and AJ McKee scored 10 points while BJ McLaurin scored nine points and had 10 rebounds.
Malik Miller scored 16 points for Morgan State while Isiah Burke scored 15.
