Thomas-Dodd only Jamaican winner at ATL meet
Shot putter Danniel Thomas-Dodd was the only Jamaican winner at the Puma American Track League (ATL) Hawkeye Pro Classic indoor track and field meeting held at the Hawkeye Indoor track in Iowa on Friday and Saturday.
The World Championships medallist equalled her second-best indoor throw of all time with a 19.12m effort, matching her sixth-placed throw at last year’s World Athletics’ Indoor Championships in Serbia. Her winning throw in Iowa came at the first effort.
American Rachel Fatherly was second with a season’s best 17.08m which came on her final attempt. Katie Fare, also of the United States, was third with 16.25m.
There were second-place finishes for Kimisha Chambers in the women’s 600m, and Karayme Bartley in the men’s 300m, while Commonwealth Games medallist Kimberly Williamson was third in the women’s high jump.
Chambers, the former St Elizabeth Technical runner, clocked 1:31.75 minutes for the 600m to finish behind American Brenna Detra who ran a personal best 1:28.52.
Bartley won the second heat of the men’s 300m in 33.55 seconds to be second overall behind American Paul Dedewo, who ran 33.42 seconds. Another Jamaican, Sean Bailey, failed to finish the event.
Williamson cleared 1.80m for third in the women’s high jump as American Vashti Cunningham won with 1.97m. Abigail Kwarteng of Ghana was second, equalling her personal best 1.83m.
US-based college student Rivaldo Marshall ran a personal best of 2:23.23 minutes over the 1,000m event to place fifth.
