GenXS gearing up high-energy experience
As excitement hits high gear ahead of the full return of the Jamaica Carnival experience, new kid on the block, GenXS, promises patrons a high-energy experience.
“You can expect vibes, fun, energy, and, without a doubt, a premium road march experience with the most beautiful costumes. GenXS is all about excess and experience so you can expect drinks to be flowing, great quality food, and non-stop vibes,” said Kibwe McGann, one of the band’s directors.
“We want to emerge into the Jamaican market… with a quality offering for those persons who truly love Carnival and those masqueraders seeking to have an incomparable Mas experience.” he continued.
The theme for GenXS is Return to Paradise.
The band is led by teams based in Miami and Jamaica. Its principals include Tagyei Belinfante, Mathew Waddell, Marc-Anthony Christian, Ajene Green, Mala Morrison and Kino Johnson.
“Our theme truly goes to the heart of our directors. Tagyei, Matt, Marc and Ajene all were born and raised in Jamaica and left at different stages of early adulthood, but they always consider Jamaica home. For them, it is a homecoming. Bringing their experience and success of GenXS Miami back to where their hearts reside, the island paradise of their birth,” McGann shared.
Prior to the road march on April 16, there will be several lead-up events. They include XS Pump, Soca Camp at Summit (Soca Camp JA and GenXS Jamaica), GenXS Immortals J’Ouvert and WiFete. There will also be two post-road march events — OceanX and XS Sunset.
McGann also spoke about the costumes that will be worn by masqueraders:
“The costumes tell a story of the beauty which is Jamaica — our vistas, beaches, mountains, and waters. Each costume is inspired by iconic Jamaican locations such as Dunn’s River, Blue Lagoon, Negril’s 7-mile beach, Blue Mountain, and Glistening Waters — the things that truly combine to make Jamaica a place like no other and truly paradise,” he explained.
There are eight costume sections, including Moonlit Orchid, designed by Natalie Fonrose; Coral Dreams and Summer Sunsets, designed by Shawn Dhanraj; Mystique Peaks, designed by Rhion Romany; and sections featuring both male and female costume options. Luminous Lagoon, Chasing Waterfalls, and Sunken Treasure are all designed by David Dewar, and Jewel of the Jungle is designed by Jessica Camp.
“What GenXS is bringing to the table is premium service and unparalleled attention to the masquerader experience,” said McGann, “We want to be here for years to come and to do this means we have to appeal to the hearts and minds of Jamaicans whilst providing quality and service that can be enjoyed by those who have played Mas anywhere in the world and persons who may be experiencing Mas for the first time.”
