Fatal crash in St Ann pushes overall road deaths to 119
The death of a woman along the Discovery Bay main road in St Ann on Monday evening has pushed road deaths since the start of the year to 119.
The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Valerie Daley of Duncans, Trelawny.
Daley is among eight people killed on the nation’s roads over the Easter holiday weekend.
Police reports are that Daley was driving a Toyota Mark X motorcar about 6:00 pm, when she failed to keep left and drifted to the right of the roadway, colliding with a white Toyota motor car.
She was pronounced dead at hospital.
Vice chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr Lucien Jones, has expressed concern about the number of fatal crashes.
“With 119 road deaths for the year and eight people dying over the long Easter weekend the National Road Safety Council is concerned about the number of fatalities on our roads, we continue to call upon people to be much more careful, especially the motorcyclists to wear their helmets and for drivers to slow down,” he said.
Dr Jones said Prime Minister Andrew Holness has called a meeting for Thursday April 20, to discuss road safety related matters.
