Lavisch embraces versatility
Since making her recording debut at age 11, Lavisch has shown her versatility as a writer. She has done songs reflecting on her life (Do Better) and the resilience (Blessings) that has kept her in a competitive game.
One of the singer’s latest songs is You Jah Jah, in which she thanks the Almighty for keeping her humble and grounded. For Lavisch, versatility as a writer is critical for any artiste eyeing a long career.
“My versatility as an artiste is not just to sing but to switch it up a little. My influence mostly comes from my surroundings,” she told OBSERVER ONLINE.
You Jah Jah is one of 10 songs on the Holland Bamboo compilation album, produced by Cocojamz Musik, an independent label operated by American Mary Nicole “Coco” John.
Although she is from the tough neighbourhood of Waterhouse, Lavisch (real name Brittney Marshall) has always considered herself a “universal person”. While in first form at St Andrew Technical High School, she recorded her first song, Shelly-Ann, a tribute to sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser, who is also from Waterhouse.
Vision, Lavisch’s EP, was released in 2021.
Released in February, the Holland Bamboo contains songs by Lutan Fyah (Never Turn Up), Teflon Young King (Mankind), Jah Lando (Most High), Jah Shane (Unconditional Love) and Ghandi (Marijuana Love).
