7-year-old Clarendon girl dies after sustaining head injury
CLARENDON, Jamaica – The May Pen Primary School community is mourning the death of a seven-year-old female student who succumbed to a head injury earlier this week.
The second-grader of Four Paths in Clarendon, Damara Wellington, did not survive emergency brain surgery performed at the Bustamante Children’s Hospital after she reportedly fell from her father’s arms and hit her head during a tragic accident on March 31.
OBSERVER ONLINE spoke to Paul Scott, principal of May Pen Primary, who confirmed the second-grader’s death.
“She died on Tuesday evening, and today (Friday) is the first day back for the children because of PEP, so we had a counselling session for them. She was a student of the afternoon session. Her parents are asking for privacy because of the tragic nature of the accident, but we can confirm that the student has passed away,” Scott said.
Scott said he would share more details “as soon as the information comes in and the family is willing to talk”.
