FITZ Coleman, coach of reigning Olympic 110m hurdles champion Hansle Parchment, says his charge will return to his best pretty soon, following a recent minor setback which has affected this season’s preparation.

Parchment, who is coming off an injury-plagued season, finished fourth in a season’s best 13.60 seconds in the first 110m hurdles event at the Drake Relays in the United States on April 29.

He was also a fourth-place finisher at the New Life Invitational in The Bahamas last weekend.

While not disclosing the nature of Parchment’s recent setbacks Coleman said the 32-year-old has now gotten over those issues and is looking forward to putting on excellent showings in his upcoming races.

“We have had some glitches and so my position is that we are just repositioning and getting ourselves ready and sharpened up for the upcoming competitions ahead of us, and you should see improvements as we go along,” said Coleman.

“It [preparation] has been going steadily but it has not been as steady as we would have liked. But, like I said, there were some glitches and we are now past those and we are working to get back on track.

“Those runs earlier this season are measuring sticks because we just used those to see where we are and just work from that, so I expect to see improvements as we go along,” the veteran coach added.

Parchment, who has a personal best 12.94 seconds in the event, was the second-fastest Jamaican in the world last year with a time of 13.08. His compatriot, the Commonwealth Games champion Rasheed Broadbell, was better with 12.99.

The St Thomas native has had his fair share of injury problems over the past three seasons as he was forced to miss the final of the 110m hurdles event at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, last summer after he suffered a freak accident at the start line in the final.

However, Coleman shared that once Parchment is fit and healthy he expects his charge to rediscover his form which saw him capturing gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.

“He is the same person and so I don’t expect anything different because he is always determined to do his utmost best at all times,” he said.
