UPDATE: Petrojam says product supply will continue amid sick-out
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Petrojam Limited said there will not be a disruption in the supply of products to the market amid the sick-out staged by the company’s technical staff on Wednesday.
The State-owned oil refinery said in a release that it is currently working to restore normalcy to its operations after some categories of workers affiliated with the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) called in sick.
The sick-out, the company said, is related to concerns regarding the Public Sector Compensation Restructuring. Negotiations have reportedly dragged on for several months, without reaching a decision.
Vincent Morrison, president of UCASE, said despite an agreement being reached between the management and union, the Ministry of Finance and Public Service has intervened in the negotiations, granting approval for a lower offer than initially agreed on by the staff and Petrojam’s management.

“Petrojam has been engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service (MoFPS) regarding the parameters for wage adjustments. The company anticipates further guidance from MoFPS today,” the release read.
It continued: “Discussions with the union are ongoing and a meeting will be held with UCASE and the Ministry of Labour this afternoon towards resuming normal business operations.”
