Dos Santos left puzzled after MBU’s meek surrender to Waterhouse
MONTEGO Bay United (MBU) Head Coach Neidir Dos Santos criticised his team for their “nightmare” performance as they went down 3-0 to Waterhouse in the Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League (WNJPL) on Monday at Stadium East.
MBU, who were coming off a goalless draw with newcomers Lime Hall, were outclassed in the first half as Waterhouse forward Javane Bryan netted in the 26th and 45th minutes, with Denardo Thomas adding his name to the scoresheet in the 34th minute.
The St James-based club also failed to get a consolation as Odane Nish saw his penalty saved by Kemar Foster.
Dos Santos said the defeat left him puzzled.
“The team simply didn’t do what we trained. I don’t know, because we don’t play like that [usually]; we play pressing the opponent. And they gave too much space to Waterhouse and started to get nervous and miss passes. The first half was something to forget completely,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
A few MBU players seemed disgruntled on the field, which also disappointed the Brazilian.
“This is something we don’t want to see. We play as a team; we have to win, lose and draw as a team. I addressed that in the dressing room that it is unacceptable. Of course that happened when it was three-nil already but the problem was the positioning of the team that we didn’t do what we’re used to, which was a nightmare.”
Along with the defeat, the team is yet to score. He was also frank in what needs to be done to improve the team’s fortunes.
“We have to change, we have to put players that are capable…”
There was no issue for opposing Head Coach Marcel Gayle who commended his team for bouncing back from their opening 3-0 defeat to Tivoli Gardens.
“The team dug in deep during the week; we hit the training ground hard this week. We saw how we went wrong defensively — and evidently it showed — hence we got three goals and a clean sheet and we’re grateful for that.”
Waterhouse will look to make it back-to-back wins when they travel to Drax Hall on Sunday to play newcomers Lime Hall while MBU will look for their first three points against Cavalier SC.
