Nubian to rep UK dancehall at Sting 2023
UK artiste Nubian is expected to make her performance debut in Jamaica at Sting 2023 and she’s looking forward to representing for the UK dancehall genre.
Pioneered by British-Jamaican dancehall recording artiste Stylo G, UK dancehall is a blend of Jamaican and South London accents over hardcore dancehall beats.
Nubian, who is also an attorney in the UK, says she is already feeling the pressure to deliver big on her performance at Sting.
“I feel like a lot of people are gonna wanna see what I’m coming with because I’m British. So, I feel like there’s a lot of eyes on me. I know that there are people out there saying I wonder what she is coming with,” Nubian said in a press release.
“So, I feel like there is a lot of pressure on me because I’m not born in Jamaica and being the first female British Artiste to hit that stage. People in the UK will be watching and are relying on me to represent the UK dancehall.”
Nubian, who has been building up her resume in the UK dancehall circuit, said Sting 2023 is a massive opportunity for her as an Ambassador of UK dancehall to put the genre on the map.
“This is a one-time opportunity and I am going to go out there and give it all I can,” she said.
Nubian, a third generation Jamaican, is known for songs such as Guess What, London Badness and 10/10 Freestyle.
Born and raised in London, Nubian’s late father was a well-known DJ in London in the 1980s who inspired her to go into the entertainment industry at a very young age.
Nubian started her music career in college where she studied performing arts and spent most of her time visiting musical theatres around London and taking part in musical theatre projects.
