Santos to host 60th anniversary celebration and fund-raiser
Santos Football Club gears up for a grand 60th Anniversary Celebration. The Vineyard Town-based club, a beacon of sporting excellence, is set to commemorate its remarkable 60-year journey with a prestigious dinner and award function on April 13, 2024 at Terra Nova Hotel.
The master of ceremonies for the dinner is Oral Tracey and promises to be a night of excitement, where the club celebrates the past and look forward in anticipation of great things on the horizon as we aim to restore the clubhouse and the club to a league more fitting of Santos’ stature.
A media release from Santos said the club is extending “a warm invitation to the entire football community…to join in the celebration and support the club’s legacy of 60 years on the field.”
Founded on April 16, 1964, Santos Football Club has a rich history of dedication, passion, and numerous triumphs on the field. With numerous successful local championships and the development of marquee talents, the club has been a pivotal force in the community.
“Santos remains the second most successful club with five national league victories and is known for producing some of Jamaica’s leading talents and most influential football minds such as the legendary, Allan ‘Skill’ Cole, Howard ‘Juicy’ Bell, Winston Chung Fah, Orville Edwards, and so many others,” said club President Carlton ‘’Spanner’’ Dennis.
The 60th celebration continues with a special church service on Sunday, April 14, at Christ Church in Vineyard Town at 10 am, inviting all to join in a moment of reflection and gratitude. Following the service, the festivities are to continue with a lively ‘lyme’ at Murray’s Fish and Jerk Hut in Clarendon Park, providing a perfect setting for players, supporters, and community members to come together.
“The pinnacle of the anniversary celebration unfolds on Tuesday, April 16, as Santos’ Championship Team face-off against Boys Town’s Championship Team in what will be an explosive and entertaining football match,” said former player and current club Vice-President Trevin Nairne.
“With both teams fighting for a top four position to get into the postseason following a 1-1 draw in the first encounter, the historical rivalry between these two clubs continues and fans can expect beautiful, intense, and positive football on the day. This could easily be the best football match in all of 2024 anywhere and at any level of football in Jamaica,” added Nairne.
