Energy minister to meet with JPS, Flow, Digicel on Friday

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Energy Minister Daryl Vaz says he will be meeting with the management of the Jamaica Public Service Company and telecommunications companies Digicel and Flow on Friday at 9:00 am to outline the way forward for full restoration of services post Hurricane Beryl.

Following the internal meeting, Vaz said he will be hosting a press conference to update the nation.

He said he will also be joined by Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth & Job Creation, Matthew Samuda and the National Water Commission whose water supplies are heavily dependent on the restoration of JPS.

“We have given them the day for the assessments to be done and I am expecting a full plan to be revealed to me tomorrow following which at 10:00 am we will have a press briefing to allow for the press to ask questions so that we can better inform the country as to what timelines we are looking at,” Vaz said.

He pleaded with Jamaicans for their patience, noting that Beryl had only made its passage by Jamaica only last evening.

“It is only fair and reasonable that I allow them (the service providers) the day so that they can do their assessments. I’m looking forward to updating the nation with timelines and positive news,” the minister said.
