Jamaica names 66-member team to Olympic Games in Paris

A 66-member team was named by the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) to represent Jamaica at the Olympic Games set for July 26 to August 12, 2024 in Paris, France.

Jamaica will participate in 17 events —men and women’s 100m, men and women’s 200m, men and women’s 400m, men and women’s 800m, women’s 1500m, women’s 100m hurdles, men’s 110m hurdles, men and women’s 400m hurdles, men and women’s long jump, men and women’s high jump, men and women’s triple jump, men and women’s discus, men and women’s shot put, women’s hammer, men and women’s 4×100 relay, women’s 4×400 relay and the 4×400 mixed relay.

The country will not compete in the men’s 4x400m at the Olympic Games for only the second time since 1948 after they failed to qualify despite several attempts including in a special relay event at the recent national trials.

Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion, is among the 32 women named to the team. Fraser-Pryce has said she will retire after the Games, which will be her fifth Olympics.

Reigning 200m world champion Shericka Jackson, the second-fastest woman in history in the event with a time of 21.41s, will be competing at her third Olympic Games while her MVP Track Club teammate Tia Clayton will be making her Olympic debut.

Among the other women named to the team are national 400m record holder Nickisha Pryce, 100m hurdles world champion Danielle Williams, two-time World Championships silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts, veteran 800m runner Natoya Goule- Toppin and two-time World Championships bronze medallist Rushell Clayton. Two-time double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah misses out due to injury.

In the meantime, Kishane Thompson, the fourth-fastest Jamaican man ever, and the fastest man this year with a personal best 9.77 seconds, is among the 34 men named to the team.

Oblique Seville, who finished fourth in the 100m at the Tokyo Games; World Indoor Championships bronze medalist Ackeem Blake; reigning 110-m hurdles Olympic champion Hansle Parchment; World Championships silver medallist Wayne Pinnock and triple jump sensation Jaydon Hibbert are among the 34 men that make up the team. Antonio Watson, the 400m world champion, will not compete at the Olympics due to injury.

See complete team named by the JOA below. The organization noted that the selection of the relay teams is at the discretion of the technical leader and his team.
