From Friends to Forever

From Friends to Forever

If you told Tevin Ashman almost seven years ago that he was going to marry Shadé Foster, he wouldn’t have believed you. They had been attending Kencot Christian Fellowship for years without really speaking but after a youth group meeting, Tevin heard from a friend that Shadé had a little crush on him. Although he would have seen her around at church, his intention at the time was not romance, as he only took Shadé’s telephone number for youth meeting duties. A friendship ensued however and they spoke over the phone every day about church, school and their individual plans for the future. About two years into their friendship, they started going on casual outings. Tevin confessed to Tuesday Style Vows (TSV) that things eventually started to change. “I started to like her more than a friend because I realised that she is an amazing, loving and caring person, and she was always there for me.”

On December 26, 2019, Tevin and Shadé were at one of their regular outings and Tevin asked Shadé to be his girlfriend. Shadé told Tevin, “This means you can’t get up tomorrow and say you don’t want to be with me anymore.”

The proposal

Her words must have worked because in November of 2023, during Shadé’s birth month, her friends, along with Tevin, planned a hotel trip for her birthday. On the north-west coast of the island, the group visited the Hideaway at Royalton Blue Waters resort in Montego Bay. Of course, Shadé had no idea that Tevin had planned a proposal. After having a Japanese dinner and her friends keeping her distracted, Tevin — with the help of a hotel staff member — decorated her bedroom to set up the proposal. As elated as she was, when Tevin asked Shadé to be his bride, she ran away in excitement and came back with a smile and tears in her eyes. She said “Yes!”

“I do”

On Saturday, June 22, 2024, the couple tied the knot at their church home, Kencot Christian Fellowship. Shadé walked up the aisle in a Bliss Bridal Boutique mermaid gown with beaded bodice and sparkle tulle skirt. She was accompanied by her mother Karlene Haynes and father figure Dr Jermaine McCalpin whilst saxophonist Joshua Carery serenaded the guests to

Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) by Hillsong United. Her matching bouquet was decorated with champagne roses, white hydrangeas, lavenders, baby’s-breath, rose and eucalyptus leaves. Officiated by Pastor Errol Bolt, the couple exchanged personal vows and rings in front of 100 witnesses. Shortly after, the couple participated in a candle ceremony led by Pastor Musa Laing. Making things official on paper, Tevin and Shadé completed the signing of the register while saxophonist Carery performed for the second time with a wedding selection favourite, Perfect by Ed Sheeran.

After being formally introduced as Mr and Mrs Tevin Ashman, the newly-weds walked down the aisle to Buga (Lo Lo Lo) by Nigerian artistes Kizz Daniel and Tekno. Thanks to wedding planners Anna-Alecia Lawrence and Gail Wynter-Farquharson, the Ashmans had a successful celebration of their love with their beloved friends and family.

The newly-weds, although they didn’t have a formal reception, added a sweet touch to their celebrations by doing a first dance to Romain Virgo’s, Good Woman. Kii’s Kitchen also designed an elegant carrot wedding cake with vanilla buttercream filling.

The Ashmans later celebrated their union at Riu Palace Aquarelle in Falmouth, Jamaica.
