She’s A Godgift, Geolithic to light up Bonnie Blue Flag Trophy today

A thrilling showdown is expected in today’s $1.25-million Bonnie Blue Flag Trophy feature as two top contenders, American-bred horses She’s A Godgift and Geolithic, emerge as strong favourites for victory.

She’s A Godgift, trained by Leroy Tomlinson, makes her seasonal debut in this event, boasting an impressive local record of three wins, one second, and two thirds from 10 starts.

Her main rival, Geolithic, conditioned by Peter-John Parsard, has also shown consistent form, with three wins, two seconds, and two thirds from 13 outings.

She’s A Godgift, a four-year-old bay filly by Wildcat Red out of Ghostly Direction, last competed in the Chairman’s Plate on December 7, 2024, finishing 4 ¾ lengths behind
Run Julie Run.

The reduced distance in this event should suit her, and she’s expected to improve. Her preparation has been solid, with a five-furlong (1,000m) gallop in 1:02.4 on January 19. Javaniel Patterson retains the ride.

Geolithic, a five-year-old bay mare, has had one run this season, finishing fourth over five furlongs on January 4, 3 ¼ lengths behind the winner. She’s also worked well, galloping six furlongs (1,200m) in 1:14.4 on January 19. Panamanian jockey Ismael Velasquez takes the reins.

The Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m) is positioned as the ninth and final event on the day with a post time of 5:25 pm. First race is at noon.

Among the other 10 runners in the field, Grecian Light, a fellow American-bred contender, could potentially play the role of spoiler. Despite underwhelming performances in her last three outings, the Paul Swaby-trained filly possesses the class and talent to make a significant impact here.

Making her seasonal debut, she’ll be looking to put her recent disappointments behind her and start the new season on a positive note. Her most recent start was on December 26, 2024, where she finished unplaced over six and a half furlongs (1,300m). While that effort was disappointing, her trainer and connections will be working to iron out any issues and have her ready to fire in this event.

Tevin Foster takes the ride, aiming to revive Grecian Light’s fortunes and steer her back into the winners’ circle. With the right combination of pace, track conditions, and racing luck,
Grecian Light could potentially upset the applecart and spoil the party for the top two contenders.
