KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica College’s Kai Kelly broke the boys Class Three 100m record with a sumptuous 10.60 seconds (0.0m/s) on Wednesday’s second day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

St Jago High’s Jevaney Findlay took the silver medal in 10.67 seconds, also under the previous 10.69 record set in 2019 by Jamaica College’s Christopher Scott. Rajaun Romelly of St Jago was third with a personal best 10.87 seconds.

Kelly came into the championships with a best of 11.08 seconds. He ran 10.97 in the first round on Tuesday before his big run Wednesday night.

Gary Card made up for missing last year’s Champs by winning the Class 1 100m in 10.28 seconds (0.5m/s), just holding off St Georges College’s Tyreece Foreman- 10.29 seconds with Excelsior High’s Malike Nugent third in 10.35 seconds.

After lowering his personal best to 10.06 seconds in the semi-finals, there were expectations that Card would challenge the meet record 9.99 seconds set by Kingston College’s Bouwahjgie Nkrumi in 2023. However, the Wolmerian started slowing down as he got near to the finish line and grabbed the back of his legs in discomfort as he crossed the line.

Meanwhile, Excelsior’s Michael Graham ran a personal best 10.46 (-0.2m/s) to win the Class Two gold medal, coming from behind to catch Holmwood Technical’s Jaydon Collins and Calabar High’s Byron Walker on his way to victory. Collins ran 10.54 seconds and Walker clocked 10.65 seconds.
