Bahamas juror dismissed after crying over murdered 8-month-old
NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) — Justice Nei Brathwaite dismissed a woman juror on Monday after she broke down in tears during the testimony of a pathologist as he described the gunshot injuries that ended a baby’s life in The Bahamas.
Defence lawyer, David Cash, had raised concerns as to whether the juror, who was sitting on the murder and attempted murder trial of Antorn Anthony Davis, could be impartial.
Prosecutors say Davis is responsible for the August 28, 2017, shooting that killed eight-month-old Shelton Tinker Jr and injured his parents Shelton Tinker Sr and Jeffrina Sweeting.
Tinker had earlier testified that he was confronted by a gunman as he was about to enter his home during the early hours of August 28, after attending a party.
Tinker said he recognised the assailant as the defendant, whom he referred to as “Bigger”, and that he had known him since he frequented the area.
He told the court that he had no dispute with Bigger.
Tinker said the shooting had caused a rift in his relationship with Sweeting because she blamed him for the incident.
