D&G Foundation leads Labour Day transformation in Marine Park

REPRESENTATIVES of the Desnoes & Geddes (D&G) Foundation joined residents, volunteers, and community leaders at the Marine Park Community Centre Labour Day project on Friday to transform the vital neighbourhood hub in Portmore, St Catherine.

The initiative formed part of the foundation’s ongoing ‘Growing with Communities’ corporate social responsibility platform, which focuses on building resilient, thriving Jamaican communities.

For the day, teams of volunteers revitalised the centre through a wide range of activities which included installing solar-powered LED lights for the netball court, repainting the building, landscaping the grounds, collecting garbage, and upgrading the bathroom with new tiling.

The D&G Foundation also donated a new welcome sign for the centre — a symbol of pride and renewal.

The project did more to improve infrastructure while rekindling community spirit. For the residents of Marine Park, the Labour Day efforts marked a meaningful investment in a space they rely on for recreation, connection, and support.

Through the foundation’s support — which included materials, labour, and coordination — the initiative became a powerful example of corporate social responsibility in action.

Displaying the soon-to-be-installed welcome sign — gifted by the D&G Foundation — volunteers and community leaders gather for a photo, marking a day of shared effort and community pride.x
