BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Caribbean Community (Caricom) leaders will meet with Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on Friday for a one-day summit under the theme “Moving Closer to Unite”.
Informed sources told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that the summit marks a renewed push to deepen cooperation between Brazil and the Caribbean region in response to global and regional challenges.
The sources said the summit will centre on five key priorities, namely food and nutritional security, climate change, energy transition, disaster risk management and connectivity.
They said that the high-level meeting will also address wider regional concerns, including coordinated support for Haiti and shared positions ahead of major global forums, including the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30) to be held in Brazil from November 10-21 this year.
The summit is expected to adopt a declaration on COP 30.
The sources said that the summit provides a platform for fostering stronger multilateral ties, encouraging development cooperation and advancing mutual interests through dialogue and practical initiatives.
There will also be presentations from the various leaders at the summit, as well as the signing of various agreements and the issuing of a joint communique, the sources said
