Legacy Isle finds his stride with dominant win in SVL Anniversary Trophy
Trainer Rohan Crichton says Legacy Isle is finally finding his rhythm in Jamaica following a smooth and commanding victory in the 24th Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Anniversary Trophy over five and a half furlongs at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
After a couple of mixed performances since arriving on the island, the talented colt turned heads with a convincing display, much to the delight of his trainer.
“I am quite happy with him because he started off with a confusing race a couple races back when he ran fourth,” said Crichton. “But today he continues to show himself as he is training very well, and he is starting to acclimatise to Jamaica.”
Crichton explained that Legacy Isle, who had a setback during the Mouttet Mile campaign, is now showing positive signs of progress both physically and mentally.
“Legacy Isle is catching Jamaica’s weather now, and in the mornings, he looks better. He is a lot more aggressive now, and he has gotten fully over the accident during the Mouttet Mile campaign,” he shared. “We are hoping to keep him safe, sound, and happy for the races towards the end of the year.”
With confidence growing in the camp, Crichton hinted at stretching out the colt’s distance in the near future in preparation for another run at the Mouttet Mile.
“He is doing well, and so we are going to try and stretch him out one or two times before the Mouttet Mile, getting back going a mile, and so that is the plan,” he added.
Champion jockey Raddesh Roman, who was back aboard Legacy Isle for the win, believes the colt is among the elite on the local circuit.
“This is a very good horse, and he is getting over his issues day by day,” Roman said. “I think he is one of the best horses in the country. He ran far better than the last time that I won on him, and so he is getting much fitter this season.”
