Sha’Carri Richardson charged with domestic violence offence – reports

SEATTLE, United States – World 100m Champion Sha’Carri Richardson spent the night in police custody on Sunday after being charged with a domestic violence offence, according to United States (US) media.

A CBS news report indicated that Richardson was arrested by police following an altercation with a man at the  Seattle-Tacoma International Airport where the sprinter allegedly pushed the man into a column and threw a pair of headphones at him.

The incident was reportedly caught on a security camera.

Though the man told police Richardson was his girlfriend and he was not interested in pressing charges, jail records show Richardson was booked at the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, on Sunday and was released Monday.

Following her release, Richardson, who is dating fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, participated in early rounds of the 100m event at the US national trials before pulling out on Thursday.

She has an automatic bye in the World Championship event as reigning champion.

USA Track and Field declined to comment on the sprinters arrest.

“USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,” it said in a statement.
