Hopeton Lindo, Anthony Malvo release new single Mental Health Awareness
On the heels of World Mental Health Day, recognised on October 10, Hopeton Lindo was shocked to learn of the number of people who suffer from psychological disorders globally. It inspired him to write Mental Health Awareness.
Lindo and fellow singer Anthony Malvo are featured on the song which was released by Zojak Worldwide on November 7 through his Irie Pen Records.
“I think mental health awareness is very crucial in saving lives as many people suffer in silence. Just listen to the lyrics of the song, the message is in the music, and I hope it brings comfort and peace of mind to someone who needs it,” said Lindo.
To help him spread that message, Lindo reached out to Malvo, his friend since the 1980s when they worked the sound system circuit in Kingston. Malvo is known to dancehall fans for songs like
Come Back to Me (with Tiger) and Greatest Girl Lover (with Daddy Lizard).
A prolific songwriter and producer, Lindo has penned or co-written hits for icons such as Maxi Priest, J C Lodge, Gregory Isaacs, Shabba Ranks, and many others.
In September, the Jamaica Constabulary Force reported that 44 suicides had been committed in Jamaica since the start of 2025. One month later, Odean Forbes, mental health officer for the Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA) Mental Health Unit, disclosed that 100 individuals in that area sought treatment each month for psychological issues.
Lindo and Malvo were backed on Mental Health Awareness by multi-instrumentalist Paul Gauntlett and harmony singer Shauna “ShaunaDazzle” Dixon, with engineering by Syl Gordon and mixing and mastering by the Heavybeat Crew.
