APOLOGY AND CORRECTION
On Monday, 13 July 2026, the Jamaica Observer published an article entitled “Dead Girl’s Ghost Haunts Dayton.”
The Observer acknowledges that the headline was capable of conveying the false impression that Dr Campbell had some association with, or responsibility for, the rape and murder of Diane Smith. The Observer acknowledges that any such implication is entirely false.
Dr Campbell was an infant when Diane Smith was raped and murdered. He has never been implicated, suspected or connected in any way with that tragic crime.
The Observer further acknowledges that Dr Campbell did not repeat or endorse any allegation connecting any person to the rape and murder of Diane Smith, whether debunked or otherwise.
The Jamaica Observer sincerely apologises to Dr Campbell for the distress, embarrassment and reputational harm occasioned by the publication and withdraws any defamatory imputations arising therefrom.
