Fox Sports’ Maggie Wolfendale’s Jamaican awakening — where racing meets rapture

Fox Sports’ Maggie Wolfendale’s Jamaican awakening — where racing meets rapture

In her debut reporting assignment in Jamaica, Maggie Wolfendale, United States-based Fox Sports’ presenter, surrendered to Jamaica’s allure, transforming work into a whimsical odyssey.

Wolfendale was on the island for the fourth staging of the US$300,000 Mouttet Mile on Saturday, December 6, 2025, providing top-notch coverage for Fox Sports.

“The experience in Jamaica for the very first time was just wonderful,” Wolfendale said, her voice still steeped in the island’s hospitality.

“The hospitality, the people, the food, I am a foodie, and all of the traditional dishes have been excellent. I went out on the boat and it was really nice. I am here for work and it doesn’t feel like I am working,” Wolfendale told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.

The Mouttet Mile, Caymanas Park’s annual showpiece, captured her gaze like a thoroughbred straining for the wire.

“The Mouttet Mile keeps getting bigger and better every year and this partnership that we have with Caymanas Park and Fox Sports, promoting this race, shows. I think this year they have the best field they have assembled; they keep putting up the money, and I think people keep coming, and so it’s definitely the highlight of Jamaican racing,” she explained.

A third-generation horsewoman, Wolfendale’s 2016 Fox Sports debut merely widened a lifelong trance.

“I grew up in horse racing…it’s 365 days a year, so it’s like we don’t get any breaks from it either,” Wolfendale said before bursting out in laughter.

“I am enjoying myself doing what I am doing. Being involved in racing, so my husband is a trainer and those wins that you get to be a part of, there’s no other high like it. It is the best feeling in the world to stand there with your horse in the winning circle,” Wolfendale shared.

An intuitive judge of equine mettle, Wolfendale calls it her “forte”— discerning fitness, readiness, sharpness.

“I am pretty good looking at a horse and being able to tell if they are fit, if they fit the conditions well… that’s my biggest strength. But being a part of the pageantry of racing, big days like this, it’s so fun,” she said.

Bad days exist, but Wolfendale’s verdict is clear: “The pluses outweigh the minuses for sure.”

When asked if she’d return, Wolfendale said: ““If they ask me back, I am here.”
