Elaine Thompson-Herah anchors women’s 4x100m team to gold
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A brilliant anchor leg from fit again Elaine Thompson-Herah took Jamaica to gold in the women’s 4x100m relay on Sunday’s final day of the Debswana World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, in a time of 42.00 seconds flat.
Briana Williams replaced Shericka Jackson on the lead-off leg of the team that had run 41.96 seconds in Saturday’s first round qualifying, handing over to Jodean Williams while Lavanya Williams ran the third leg.
Thompson-Herah got the baton in second place behind Canada but caught and passed anchor leg runner Donna Ntambue and appeared to ease up as she crossed the finish line.
Canada ran a national record of 42.17 seconds for the silver medal, with Spain taking the bronze in 42.31 seconds.
