Loaves of laughter returns June 7 in Mandeville
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Comedy show Loaves of Laughter returns on June 7 with headliners Curley Roberts and Owen “Blakka” Ellis expected to spark amusement at Top Loaf Café.
This following four successful shows hosted and organised by event promoter Christopher “The Entertainer” Larmond in conjunction with Top Loaf Café.
Recently patrons were amused by the performance of Ian “Ity” Ellis.
“Laughter is good and especially when that laughter is happening in the middle of the country, Mandeville, that is also good… I really support this event. This is my first time here for the event and I am really happy to see that people are in support of it,” Ellis told the Jamaica Observer.
He said traditionally people had to go to Kingston for comedy shows and credited Larmond for creating an opportunity for Mandeville to become a location for family-oriented entertainment.
“It is very important, because the entertainment choices are few, especially for families, it is sometimes difficult for families to find a place where they can go and enjoy a presentation, a performance outside of Kingston. The fact that this has started and is continuing on a regular basis is definitely a good thing for the family. From what I gather is it clean and wholesome entertainment and that is also good,” he continued.
Larmond, reflecting on the previous staging of the comedy show, said he expects an even larger showing.
“We started off with Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley, but due to the rain we didn’t have a large turnout, but as the show progressed we had the crowd increasing. People telling each other and marketing the show and telling everybody. Even the comedians themselves have certified that this is the spot in Mandeville for it,” he said.
The promoter pointed to the recent show on May 3 creating an entertaining atmosphere with seasoned comedians taking up the open mic challenge, among them Ludlow “Boasy Boy Floyd” Peynado, Rasheed “Pacco 200 mil” Lewis, Garnet “Apache Chief Jr” Allen, and Brandon “Captain Tism” Cowan.
“They love the energy and the crowd… Oftentimes we have two headliner comedians, but also packed into the show we have more comedians, more artistes, and more persons of the performing arts that may just be there to just come through and exercise their talents. We want to improve people to build on their craft and give others laughter,” he said.
On April 3 Loaves of Laughter featured Bobby Finzi-Smith and Leighton Smith along with a saxophonist Keanu Knibbs.
