Bounty Killer endorses Keywee’s ‘9 to 5’ song to full effect
Dancehall icon Bounty Killer has shown support for rising act Keywee by reposting his single 9 to 5 on Instagram.
The post has over 4,000 likes and more than 2000 reposts.
“Big respect to Bounty Killer, since he reposted the song, the views on the YouTube jump up, the streams on Spotify have also increased, and even selectors ah link me for the dub. Bounty Killer, ah the real general,” Keywee said.
Keywee’s song highlights the struggles of traditional jobs, and Bounty Killer—often championing new talent—highlighted the track, which features a gritty, lyrical vibe.
The repost is just an extension of Bounty Killer’s ongoing role in mentoring and uplifting new artists, while he himself is simultaneously being honoured in 2026 with the Key to the City of Kingston and a street renaming in Seaview Gardens.
The single is driven by Keywee’s lament that “9 to 5 ah kill we, ah beat we/man affi work so hard to make ends meet” as he takes a deep dive into the hustle and grind of the daily workplace.
“The 9 to 5 song was inspired by everyday living within the working system. The system was created to entrap the unfortunate, and this creates a bit of a paradox for most, because the harder you work, the more taxes you pay, the less money to take home and the bills just keep hiking. It is a vicious cycle and a very relatable topic,” he said.
The single appears on the Jamtor riddim, which also features Semojrah Naki, a combination between Nature Ellis and Keywee, Empress Leh Leh, Planky Don, Izrel Di Cotton Pikka and Kae Music.
Keywee is known for singles such as Melanin Pop (2020), Clean Like Skeleton (2020), and Nuh Use to Gyal (2021).
