Shame on the US!
The USA, along with Canada and Mexico, will jointly host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Letters
June 11, 2026

Shame on the US!

Dear Editor,

FIFA, the world governing football body, should consider asking countries seeking to host the World Cup but know they will be imposing visa restrictions to step back.

It is a shame that the United States has not only detained officials, players, and fans for hours, but has, in some cases, denied them entry.

This is not good for the sport, and I believe FIFA should only allow visitor friendly countries to host the greatest show on Earth.

In fact, the US should be given a red card and never again host the tournament unless it eases its visa restrictions.

Too much politics is never good for sport.

But, despite the ugly show before kick-off, I hope it will be a great tournament. My picks are Brazil and Spain.

Peter Brown

Portmore, St Catherine
