Classics in June turns 21!
When the first artiste takes to the stage at the Classics in June concert on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2026, it will mark the official coming of age of the charity concert which has delighted lovers of classical music across Jamaica for 21 years.
This staging of the concert by the Kingston Club of Soroptimist International Jamaica will take place at the Church of the Ascension in Mona, St Andrew, beginning at 5:00 pm.
Concert-goers can look forward to an evening featuring well-known Jamaican musicians Lori Burnett, soprano; Rory Baugh, tenor; Yanique Leiba-Ebanks, piano; Christine MacDonald Nevers, mezzo-soprano; Shawn Richards, guitar; Stephen Shaw-Naar, piano; Gabriel Walters, violin; and Steven Woodham, violin. They are joined by talented newcomers Rashida Nelson, cello, who has collaborated with ensembles including the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jamaica; Indira Perez Valdes, soprano, a Cuban opera singer; and Sean Vasciannie, pianist and composer, who has a deep affinity for classical music and has composed approximately 50 short pieces. He will be performing two of his own works at the concert.
Jamaica is truly blessed to have an abundance of exceptionally gifted musicians and composers, some of whom have won recognition internationally and in the region. Classics in June presents an opportunity for these artistes to express their passion for this genre of music, and for their audience to appreciate the high standards and joy of the music they interpret or create.
The concert is sponsored by the CHASE Fund, Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited, celebrating its 10th anniversary, The Treatment Room, and Vinci Construction Grands Projets.
The beneficiaries of the proceeds from the concert will again be Shortwood United Church Early Childhood Development Centre and other Soroptimist charities.
