Germany go into the game as overwhelming favourites after their dominant win over Curacao. However, there were some cracks in their defence, and with the width and speed of the Ivory Coast attackers, they may be in for a tougher test, particularly from Yan Diomande. Ivory Coast, though, may have to find a way to be organised without the ball, given they’re used to having possession. They’ll have to be wary of the likes of Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala who will be pulling the strings. I expect a 2-1 victory for Germany.

I think Germany will edge Ivory Coast in what could be one of the most entertaining games of the round. Germany’s attack is among the most dangerous in the tournament and they showed just how ruthless they can be against Curacao. However, Ivory Coast impressed me with their tactical discipline against Ecuador, defending resolutely while looking dangerous on the counter attack.

I expect them to cause Germany problems, but I think the Germans will have just enough quality going forward to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory.

When it’s tournament football always remember one thing: Never underestimate the Germans. They have a formidable record in World Cups, having been to eight finals, more than any other team in the tournament’s history.

The last two tournaments have, however, raised eyebrows after they suffered back-to-back group stage exits.

At this World Cup they started off with an impressive 7-1 win over Curacao and they look like a unit ready to press on past the recent tournament woes.

I expect the Germans to pick up their second win at the tournament, this of course would be the first time in 12 years that Germany are winning a minimum of two games at a World Cup.

Ivory Coast are no pushovers. They have already registered three points and they know that one more point helps them secure a spot in the Round of 32.

But I have Germany claiming a 2-0 win.
