Lu Celania Sierra headlines Jamaica Beauty, Fashion and Wellness Week
The inaugural staging of the Jamaica Beauty, Fashion and Wellness Week is scheduled to take place at the AC Hotel in Kingston from August 16-23.
Under the theme ‘The Art of Style’ for the mind, body and soul, the week-long celebration aims to become one of the Caribbean’s premier lifestyle events.
The event, which is promoted by Atelier Dermoth Williams Limited, owners of the annual Miss Universe Jamaica franchise, has secured its first headliner with the confirmation of internationally acclaimed Lu Celania Sierra, award-winning model, renowned runway expert confidence mentor, and the recipient of the Best Coach title from the Global Beauty Awards.
Sierra’s confirmation represents a major milestone for the inaugural staging, as organisers continue to expand the event’s international reach, while positioning Jamaica as a leading destination for beauty, fashion, wellness, and creative innovation.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern pageantry, Sierra has coached and mentored some of the industry’s most successful titleholders. Her expertise in runway performance, confidence development, branding, and stage presence has been showcased on some of the world’s most prestigious platforms, including the Miss USA and Miss Universe competitions.
Through her work, she has helped transform contestants into world-class performers, earning global recognition as one of the industry’s most respected coaches and runway authorities.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Sunday, Mark McDermoth, president of Atelier Dermoth Williams Limited, explained the significance of having Sierra participating in the event.
“It is extremely significant to have Lu Celania Sierra here for many reasons. The first reason is that we have wanted to get her on the island for quite a while now, as she has been instrumental in our Miss Universe Jamaica training programmes for the past few years and has interfaced with most of our title winners in some way, either via telephone or virtual meetings in imparting her valuable training experience in the pageant world. And, finally, she will now be here to meet with this year’s Miss Universe Jamaica candidates and other interested parties, face to face. However, most importantly, Lu is the total embodiment of beauty, fashion, and wellness, due to her history of representing all the major fashion designer brands on the international runways as a former supermodel,” said McDermoth.
He added: “Equally important is Lu’s involvement with the Miss Universe Organization as the official runway, catwalk, and life coach, where she was responsible for training the international delegates to develop their high-fashion runway walk, perfect their on-stage presentation, master confident facial expressions and public public speaking. And apart from being a pioneer in runway and pageant coaching, she is also a very powerful mentor who is helping young women across the globe discover their greatest potential. She fits perfectly with the Jamaica Beauty, Fashion & Wellness objective in bringing the experts together who will assist in establishing Jamaica as the beauty, fashion and wellness capital of the Caribbean region.”
Sierra will be conducting a workshop on Friday, August 21, which is open to the public.
She will also make an appearance at the Jamaica Fashion Collections on August 22 and at the Miss Universe Jamaica coronation finals on August 23.
The Jamaica Beauty, Fashion and Wellness Week, which aims to be an annual event, will feature daily runway shows with sustainable local and international fashion designers, speakers, and seminars.
The event’s goal and core objective is to showcase Brand Jamaica’s creativity in fashion, beauty, and holistic wellness.
In a release shared with the
Observer, Sierra spoke about her involvement in the inaugural event.
“For me, the inaugural Jamaica Beauty, Fashion & Wellness Week is about celebrating resilience, renewal, and the incredible spirit of the Jamaican people,” she said. “Following the challenges brought by Hurricane Melissa, this event is sending a powerful message to communities across Jamaica and the world that Jamaica is strong, vibrant, and moving forward. I am honoured to contribute in a small way to that story of resilience.”
Sierra also expressed her appreciation for the invitation from the event’s founders, Atelier Dermoth Williams and team.
“It is such a compliment to be invited as a special guest, speaker, and participant in this wellness event,” she said. “As a coach, former model, and now mentor of confidence, I understand the importance of wellness for the body, mind, and spirit. It is the foundation of determination. Jamaica has such a rich history of producing strong, talented, and inspiring people, so being part of this event is incredibly meaningful to me.”
“A crown may change a title, but wellness, feeling beautiful, and confidence change a life and the energy in the room,” she added.
