Two of three SPARK road projects in Northern Trelawny almost complete
TRELAWNY, Jamaica—Two of the three road rehabilitation projects being undertaken in Northern Trelawny under the Government’s Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to Our Road Network (SPARK) programme are now substantially complete, with a combined value of almost $68 million.
Finishing touches are now underway on the two infrastructure projects, the Church Street to Gravel Hill roadway in Clark’s Town and the Samuel Prospect roadway, with only minor works remaining before completion.
According to Community Relations Officer for the National Works Agency’s (NWA) Western Office, Janel Ricketts, the Church Street to Gravel Hill project was undertaken at a cost of $31.2 million. The works involved the rehabilitation of 720 metres of roadway, including the construction of 530 metres of kerb and gutter, along with asphalt paving of the targeted section.
Ricketts said the project is 80 per cent complete, though asphalt paving has been fully completed. Remaining works include line marking, installation of road signs, and minor concrete works.
The Samuel Prospect roadway, valued at $36.7 million, is also substantially completed. The scope of works there includes the construction of 460 metres of kerb walls, 25 metres of concrete swales, and the asphalting of approximately 800 metres of roadway. Similar to the Church Street to Gravel Hill project, only line marking, signage, and minor concrete works remain.
Ricketts noted that the third project, the Friendship to Wakefield roadway, is set to resume shortly.
That project, valued at $292 million, includes road widening, the construction of curved channel drains, sidewalks near Wakefield Primary and Infant School, and asphalt paving.
