KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is urging members of the public to remain calm and rely on verified information regarding reports that Third Country Nationals (TCNs) may be housed in Jamaica.

In a statement on Monday, the police said, based on official word, there is currently no arrangement in place to house TCNs in St Mary. The proposed plan has not been operationalised, and no facility has been identified or finalised for such a purpose.

The police statement comes as Jamaicans express uncertainty, hesitance and outright hostility online amid the announcement of a deal with the United States (US) to accept TCNs in the country, with unverified reports about a potential TCN facility in St Mary.

The JCF is also urging individuals to desist from making threats or engaging in actions that target any individual or property in connection with the matter.

“Threats, intimidation, and damage to property are criminal offences and will be dealt with accordingly,” the police said.

Citizens are encouraged to seek information from official sources and to address concerns through lawful and peaceful means.

The JCF says it remains committed to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety and security of all Jamaicans.
