Suckoo strikes again; rides six winners in two race days
Apprentice Tajay Suckoo made Caymanas Park his playground again Sunday, riding a second-straight, three-timer to push his weekend tally to six wins.
He started with Delta Gamma for Richard Azan in the first race, then took Design Diva for Michael Spencer in the third race. But the last one was the headline: Miss Grove in Division 1 of the $1.25-m Hubert “Chinna” Bartley Memorial Trophy, an Overnight Allowance contest over seven furlongs (1,400m) for three-year-olds and up.
Miss Grove sat behind runners while the pace burned up front. Turning for home, Suckoo angled her out and let her run. She came flying late, passed
American Aviator, and won by a length and three quarters in 1:25.3.
Bob The Builder held third with Demar Williams.
It was the second winner for Nunes on the 10-race card as he also saddled Dutchess (Omar Walker) in the $780,000 E Anthony Subratie Trophy over six furlongs (1,200m), making it five winners for Nunes across the weekend.
Division 2 of the Hubert “Chinna” Bartley Memorial Trophy was won by Boss Man. Trained by Peter-John Parsard and ridden by Dane Dawkins, Boss Man won by 9 1/4 lengths, beating
Allegiance (Eric Haughton) and I Dream Again (Robert Halledeen) in a time of 1:23.4.
Racing is to continue next weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
