Trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Reyan Lewis, Walk The Plank made one decisive move to easily take the $1.05-million John Clifton Wright Memorial Cup by 8 lengths. He completed the maiden condition race for native-bred three-year-olds over 6 furlongs (1,200m) in a smart 1:13.1.
Walk The Plank got away well and quickly assumed the lead ahead of She’s Ideal (Demar Williams) and Fratellanza (Dane Dawkins). Going into the half-mile (800m) turn, he upped the tempo and began to draw away from his rivals.
Turning for home, Walk The Plank turned on the afterburner in deep stretch and ran out an easy winner ahead of stablemate Code Red (Eric Haughton) with My Friend Micki (Tajay Suckoo) third.
