Tonij Phillips’ make-up
Tonez Beau Á Trois is a one-stop beauty oasis which provides various services for women. At the helm is 24-year-old Tonij Phillips, whose mission is to bring quality to the table every single time.
“We offer massages, facials, body wraps/scrubs, waxing services, make-up application for events and consultations, and we retail cosmetics,” she explained.
She offers an all-natural line of products, as well as brands such as AJ Crimson, CAO Cosmetics, Palladio and Body Bling.
A foreign language enthusiast, Phillips’ journey began when she was just 10 years old.
“My first introduction to make-up was when I played with my Barbie dolls. I would use my mom’s make-up on them when she was away. My first official make-up was lip gloss and I was allowed to purchase these with a gift certificate I received one Christmas at age 10. This led to a collection of over 50 shades and scents.”
Now she can testify to the power of make-up on a woman.
“At a young age I was fascinated with lipstick. Whenever it was applied my demeanour would change, my posture became more upright.”
After working in a make-up store for a year, she was able to teach herself how to match a woman’s skin tone with the different shades from different brands. She then went on to gain experience in make-up for TV.
“I worked as a freelance make-up artist for six years. By this time I had fallen completely in love with the industry,” she said.
A regular attendee at make-up shows all over the United States, Phillips was constantly encouraged to open her own make-up store.
And so with the blessing of her mother, Phillips, at age 22, jetted off to Los Angeles to meet with potential suppliers.
“I was armed with my faith and portfolio. The reception from the brands was overwhelming. They said they were simply blown away by my product and industry knowledge and my portfolio. All the brands confirmed their interest in me carrying their brands in Jamaica.”
She added: “I plan to leave my mark in the beauty industry globally, so exciting times are ahead for my brand and my clients here and elsewhere.”
