Vows – ‘Fate brought us together’

Rainforest Seafoods Limited Maintenance Technician Jason Muir wed Vere Technical High School teacher Shaneka Budhoo on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Wembley Centre of Excellence, Hayes, Clarendon. Vows recounts the unfolding of this love affair.

How we met, and the proposal, as told by Shaneka

It seems a distant memory. In fact, I have no recollections of sending a Facebook friend request to Jason, yet he was already residing in my friend list. A ‘poke’ from him evolved into a frenzy of pokes between us. When I finally gathered the courage to say hi, we became fast friends in August 2014.

There were many bumps along the way, but after almost four years and the arrival of the daughter we both adore, Jason decided to pop the question in February 2017, and I said yes! So on December 29, 2018 we decided to meet each other at the altar.

The ceremony

…was an intimate gathering on the lawns of the Wembley Centre of Excellence where event planner Tania Soman-Williams used shades of turquoise and purple to further enhance the space. Awaiting the bride’s arrival was the smart bridegroom, who wore a white jacket with black lapel collar and black pants. His groomsmen wore turquoise long-sleeved shirts with purple suspenders and black pants. The bridesmaids made their own fashion statement in turquoise off-the-shoulder mermaid dresses, whilst the maid of honour wore a purple off-the-shoulder mermaid gown.

As the strains of I Found Love by BeBe Winans reverberated through the air, Shaneka, in a sweetheart neckline gown with lace sleeves and a trumpet bottom embedded with beads, made her way to her groom. In her hands she clutched a bouquet of white roses. The proceedings were officiated by Reverend Jeffrey Dawkins and included a sand ceremony to symbolise the joining of the couple’s families.

The reception

The reception was held at the same location. The festivities commenced with the arrival of the bridal party and newly-weds to Pharrell Williams’s Happy. This was followed by the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to a medley of songs — You Are My Rock by Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, Dance With Me Tonight by Olly Murs and Ding Dong’s Flair Is In The Air.

Post-formalities, guests enjoyed a hearty dinner and witnessed the cutting of the Odane Brown traditional wedding cake.

The honeymoon will follow at a later date.
