Mek Scents!

Sniff, mix, pour, label and it finally mek scents! Laura Alexis’s new candle bar offers a purely ‘scentsational’ experience, and, “Come and put your nose in our business” is the clarion call of the 8 Hillcrest Avenue showroom.

The candle bar allows customers to personalise their candles at a cost of $1,800 for 4.25-ounce jars to $3,500 for 5.2-ounce jars, and includes the candle-making kit — the prices increase based on the size of the jar. Mek Scents targets those wanting to unwind, relax and “sekkle dung” after a long day; therefore, making it a perfect date-night activity. It has also attracted corporate groups for team-building exercises and is perfect for girls’ night out.

Activities kick off with patrons nosing around the showroom. With over 51 scented oils ranging from fruit-based to scents of nature, be prepared for a lot of sniffing.

For a Laura Alexis signature scent, customers can choose from an array of soaps, mists, shower gels, and soy-burning candles. Why soy-burning candles? They burn slower, carry the scent longer, and are better for the environment.

There are even whimsical names and stories associated with each. Bedroom Bully, for instance, is the best seller: a eucalyptus and mint scent available in candles and sprays. As a child, Laura Alexis founder Laura McDonald had respiratory issues that affected her sleep, and her mother Hyacinth would place eucalyptus and mint leaves under her pillow. In a nutshell, that’s how Bedroom Bully was born.

The Laura Alexis soaps are glycerin-based and favoured for eczema and other skin conditions. The aloe vera-based shower gels are also available in signature scents.

The team at Mek Scents is mindful of the environment and is also big on recycling. Customers who simply can’t get enough of their favourite scent can refill and reuse jars or tins. There is a $100 cash back or a $100 discount off future purchases.

All Woman Fashion taps into the beauty of Laura Alexis and, too, gets a thank-you for putting its nose in their business.

Common Scents

Slap Weh, a citronella-based mosquito repellent

Clappaz, the “Christmas scent”, combines fir, pine and all the other warm scents of the season.

Bedroom Bully, the best seller, is made of eucalyptus and mint.

Bad Like Yaz, is a citrusy blend of scents will perk up any space.

Sekkle Dung is a lavender blend inducing peaceful sleep.

Hol’ A Fresh was the second scent formulated and is perfect for the bathroom.
