‘FIT FOR SAINTS’
Saint International hosted its annual Fashion Face of the Caribbean (FFC) and Avant Garde Designer of the Year competitions at the Courtleigh Auditorium on Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30. Avant Garde designs aside, patrons enjoyed Saturday’s style segments where new collections by Courtney Washington, T&T Fashion, Enigma, and MAXBROWN Limited were unveiled.
Simone Gordon of T&T Fashion updated her casual maxi dresses with 3-D beaded embroidery — beads were also on garments, on bags, and on necklaces. But perhaps the most-talked-about pieces were the halter evening dress, the rust-toned wax-print mini complete with beaded bib, and the yellow V-neck ruffle midi dress. There was also a cropped sleeve marigold Ankara print jacket with a contrasting purple skirt and pops of modern-day hues that screamed ’90s inspiration.
Washington revealed a demi-couture presentation of unconventional earth tones and incorporated gorgeous pleats and ruffle details with satin sheaths, latex jumpsuits, and his fit-for-every-occasion evening dresses. Washington further upped the drama with gigot sleeves and Victorian high collars, then unveiled a fresh connection with knitwear (think: Missoni).
When it came time for menswear, Enigma stylist Shadaie Harrison and renowned menswear retailer Sophia Max Brown, principal, MAXBROWN Limited, added a cool factor to three-piece ensembles. Both retailers presented detailed brocade suits, double-breasted pastel blazers and added their interpretations of bright colours with jackets or cropped pants. The collections represented the aesthetic of the European gent via exquisite tailoring staples in the capsule by MAXBROWN Limited.
