‘A great gesture’
The Sunshine Senior Citizens Club of Braeton, Portmore, recently received two sphygmomano-meters or blood pressure machines — one of which was digital — from the Braeton branch of Genus Pharmacy.
Cashier Dania Evans- Clemmings told the Jama i c a Obser ver that the donation was part of the pharmacy’s continued involvement in the community, where it has been operating for just over 10 years.
“We have always been part of the community, and a few of the seniors are customers of ours, so we thought this was an opportune occasion to give back,” she said.
The gesture, she added, was also in line with the pharmacy’s mission as its tagline labels it the “ideal community pharmacy”.
The seniors were thrilled with the donation, perhaps none more than Delroy Litchmore.
“I’m hypertensive, and I see the doctor at the clinic very often; at least every three months, [but] this will give me a reading more often so this is a good and great gesture, indeed,” he told the Observer. The Sunshine club is three years old and has a total of 40 members, plus volunteers. The meet every first, third and last Thursday and the activities they engage in include sewing, pastry-making, art & craft, and they also undertake social and community work.
Part of their pledge says “We believe in fellowship and quality of service that will help fellow seniors in our community to achieve a longer, happier, healthier lifestyle”.
The pharmacy has also committed to distributing discount cards in the value of 10 per cent to the seniors.
