Simpson Miller offers condolences in aftermath of US mass shooting
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller has extended condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in Sunday’s deadly mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Florida, United States.
Simpson Miller also offered sympathy to those who were injured during the attack.
Fifty people died and another 53 were injured when a gunman opened fire and seized hostages at the club.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and all those affected by this unspeakable act of terror. May God grant them the strength to overcome what must be unbearable pain and sadness,” Simpson Miller said on Sunday following the attack.
The Opposition leader said there can be no excuse for hate and intolerance that motivates acts of violence, the taking of lives and injuring of persons. She noted that it is clear that peace anywhere in the world requires love over hatred and tolerance over intolerance.
