Hanover Charities raises US$112,000
WESTERN BUREAU — The Associated Hanover Charities has managed to raise US$112,000 from its annual Sugar Cane Carnival, which was held at the Round Hill Hotel and Villas earlier this year.
More than 60 organisations in the parish have benefited from the charity. They include a number of basic, primary and high schools, private and public agencies and a range of programmes that are geared towards enhancing the development of the parish.
The Hanover Charities is the largest charity organisation in the western end of the island. It was founded in 1957 by the late William Hornby deLisser, a former custos of Hanover. He was assisted by Lord and Lady Monson (now Mrs Betty Phillips), who were shareholders in the Round Hill and Tryall properties.
Over the years, the organisation has contributed much to the development of the parish in the areas of health, education and welfare. The current vice chairman, Katrin Casserly, has said they would continue in their efforts.
“Our endeavours are to improve the quality of life for the parish of Hanover, which is generally regarded as the Cinderella parish of Jamaica. We contribute to community health, education and welfare activities…,” she said in a release.
