TAAD marks one year
WESTERN BUREAU — It has been a year since the Tax Payer Audit and Assessment Department (TAAD) opened its Stamp Duty and Transfer Tax Division along Howard Cooke Boulevard in Montego Bay. And, according to manager of the division, Christine Webb, customers have been pleased with their performance so far.
“The response has been good. We have seen over 2,000 customers since our inception,” she told the Observer.
The services offered by the Stamp Duty and Transfer Tax Division include the processing of express and normal documents, composition and estate documents, agreements and transfer of properties, stamping and collection and share transfers.
Prior to the division’s existence with its complement of 11 staff members in the western city, customers had to travel to Kingston to access these services.
In commemoration of their first year of service, the division hosted a customer appreciation day last Wednesday, which gave customers the opportunity to meet and speak with TAAD and division officials.
“We wanted to meet with (our customers) to tell them what the benefits are of the service so far and if there are any improvements they would want,” Webb said.
Meanwhile, she said the division would, within the next few months, seek to extend their range of services to include the processing of estate documents, which is now only done in Kingston.
In addition, she said they would continue to promote their services through advertising.
