‘Bomblast’ ready to explode
Savanna-La-Mar — Cecil “Bomblast” Jenkins is well known in this town’s music industry, but now that he has released two forty fives, he is hoping his career will take off islandwide.
His songs, ‘Step Up’ on the Bingy Label and ‘Gal Move’ on the footstep label, are now hitting the airwaves.
But Jenkins’ moderate success comes as no surprise to those who knew him from his earlier performances during his school years. In fact, his foray into the world of music started from as far back as his years at basic school. He was a popular performer and audience favourite at concerts held by his alma maters, Mount Grace All Age and Savanna-La-Mar Senior School.
“Deejaying, for me, is something that is inborn,” said Jenkins.
He followed his dream, and after he finished school in the 1980’s he started to get serious about building a career in the music industry. According to him, his many visits to dancehalls exposed him to popular deejay, General Trees, who was to become his mentor.
“General Trees was really my role model in a the business, but me kind a like the vibes of Merciless and Bounty Killer,” Jenkins explained.
And now that he has released his first two forty fives, he is intent on keeping the ball rolling. He said that he is in the process of voicing more records for the Name Brand studio in Savanna-La-Mar. And the deejay was confident that with the backing of his manager Sonny Rankine, who is a well-known promoter in the western end of the island, he will go far.
“Him have a lot in store and he is doing a lot and having him as me manager, big things a go happen fe me,” said an elated Jenkins.
In addition to airtime, he has been getting some degree of exposure from his performance at stage shows in Manchester, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. And he has high hopes of performing in Kingston soon.
