Police kills 15-y-o schoolboy in alleged shootout
A 15-year-old student was among two men fatally shot by the police in separate incidents in the St Andrew South Police division yesterday. Two automatic pistols – a Hungarian made 9mm and a Jennings Bryco 9mm were also seized.
The dead have been identified as Lance Zad, a student of the Seaward All Age and Junior High School and Ryan Blake, also known as ‘Black Bomb’.
The police alleged that Blake was killed after he attempted to shoot a member of a group of cops who were searching his room. The cops said they were on a special operation in the area searching for known hoodlums when they held Blake and began the search.
Blake allegedly reached for an illegal firearm and tried to point it at one of the cops but was instead shot by an officer in the abdomen and shoulder.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The incident happened at approximately 5:30 am yesterday.
According to a top detective at the Hunts Bay police station, Blake was wanted for murder, shooting with intent and arson.
“He is a political enforcer who burnt out several families at a tenement [yard] on Swallow Road in July. We suspect him in a shooting incident at Pelican Parade where a family was targeted because it was thought they were switching political allegiance,” the cop said.
Police said Blake was also wanted for the murders of Wayne Barrett and Joshua Edwards – both shot and killed in November last year, Uriel Williams – a security guard who was shot dead in January and Winston Meghoo – killed at Hill Avenue earlier this month.
And, yesterday, the police said they are looking for three of Blake’s alleged cronies whom they identified as Horace Goodison also called ‘Butter’ and two men known only as ‘Brille’ and ‘Saxa Boy’.
“We are warning these men that when we come for them they should give up and don’t attempt to challenge us,” Deputy Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of crime for St Andrew South division warned.
Lance, in the meanwhile, was killed by the police less than five hours after Blake met his demise.
The police alleged that Lance was among a group of gunmen who engaged them in a shoot-out. The cops said the teen’s body was found after the shooting subsided with gunshot wounds to the upper body and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other men, the police said, ran inside a premises at Hill Avenue.
