Another major Spanish investment for Jamaica
NEGRIL, Westmoreland – Spanish Ambassador to Jamaica, Jesus Silva, announced earlier this week that the island should expect another major Spanish investment by year-end in the area of health tourism.
The ambassador, who was speaking Tuesday at the Negril Chamber of Commerce quarterly business luncheon at Beaches, Negril, said the investor had already visited the island and had talks with the main stakeholders.
“The idea is for them to start this year depending on the timeline of approval permits,” he told reporters.
Earlier this year, Silva said that his country had surpassed the United States as the island’s premier investor in 2006, with some US$1.5 billion being pumped into the tourist sector.
He said the six Spanish hotel groups investing in the island, including RIU, Iberostar and Fiesta, would add an additional 10,000 hotel rooms islandwide and create some 40,000 jobs.
